Meet the AIG Teachers

Amy Stone

My name is Amy Stone, and I am Laurel Park Elementary's AIG & Enrichment Specialist. This is my ninth year teaching at Laurel Park Elementary and my tenth year teaching in Wake County. I graduated from East Carolina University with my Master of Arts in Reading Education and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I hold four teaching licenses, Elementary Education K-6, Academically Intellectually Gifted (AIG) K-8, Curriculum & Instruction Specialist (K-12), and Reading Education K-12. In December 2019, I became a National Board Certified Teacher.  My NBCT specialization is in Literacy for Early and Middle Childhood.

I am married and have four children, Alexandria, Cory, Hunter, and Preston. We love spending time at the beach during our holidays and track outs as a family. You can reach me through email at astone@wcpss.net or our gifted website, www.laurelparkgiftedkids.com.

Stephanie Atwell

I'm Stephanie Atwell, an Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) teacher. I only ever wanted to be a teacher and, after graduating from high school in Eastern North Carolina as Valedictorian, I was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow. I earned my K-6 Elementary Education certification and bachelor's degree in English from Meredith College. I'm currently in graduate school at East Carolina University to get my Master of Arts in Elementary Education with a focus in Gifted and Talented Education.

I love quality time with my three children (my daughter is a 3rd grader at LPES), travelling with my family, Anna Maria Island, historical fiction novels, gardening, crafting, party planning, and teaching! I'm originally from Florida, but I also lived in Washington before moving to New Bern, N.C. Apex has been my home for the past 20 years.
